# [Veeam: Why Companies Need An Off-Site Copy Of Backup Data](https://blog.nexstor.com/blog/veeam-off-site-data-backups-copy-companies)

[Veeam](https://offers.nexstor.com/cloud-connect-pricing-veeam) is a powerful tool for backing up critical data on-premises. However, relying solely on local backups leaves your organization vulnerable to various threats, including:

- **Natural Disasters:** Fires, floods, and earthquakes can devastate on-premises infrastructure, including backup servers.
- **Ransomware Attacks:** Cybercriminals are increasingly targeting backups, encrypting or deleting them to cripple recovery efforts.
- **Human Error:** Accidental deletions, misconfigurations, and other human errors can lead to data loss.

## The Imperative Of Off-Site Backups

To mitigate these risks, it’s imperative for UK companies using Veeam to implement a robust off-site backup strategy. This involves copying [Veeam backup data](https://nexstor.com/backup-data-recovery/) to a secure, geographically distant location.

## Why An Immutable Cloud Copy Is Essential

- **Enhanced Disaster Recovery:** Off-site backups in the cloud provide a secure and accessible copy of your data in the event of a local disaster.
- **Ransomware Protection:** Immutable cloud storage ensures that your backups are tamper-proof and cannot be modified or deleted by ransomware. This provides a crucial layer of protection against increasingly sophisticated cyberattacks.
- **Improved Business Continuity:** With off-site backups readily available in the cloud, organizations can recover from disruptions quickly and minimize downtime.
- **Compliance:** Many regulations, such as GDPR, require organizations to maintain secure and readily available backups. Cloud-based off-site storage helps meet these compliance obligations.
